Course Reflection AE 481W & AE 482

Throughout the entire 2016-2017 academic school year at Penn State, Architectural Engineering students participate in what is commonly known as Senior Thesis. This year long project is one of the biggest accomplishments that comes with obtaining the five year professional degree Bachelor of Architectural Engineering. It involves obtaining the drawings and specifications of a real building under construction and performing numerous investigations such as several technical analyses, a proposal for design improvements, and a presentation to a faculty jury, defending the research conducted.

For my Senior Thesis project, I examined Penn State's Earle Hall project which was a new student dormitory. Being able to effectively examine this building required many of the skills that I have learned throughout my 5 years in the AE program. Additionally, the AE program presented me with opportunities to participate in 2 different internships. The Architectural Engineering department has prepared me for success as I look to enter the construction industry upon graduation.

Thank you to all the faculty and staff who have made my education at Penn State a positive and successful experience.

CPEP Assessment

The Capstone Project Electronic Portfolio (CPEP) site was an effective tool to use throughout the entire Senior Thesis project. It provided many user-friendly resources to display students' work and accomplishments throughout the school year. It is an effective resource that will enable my work to be displayed for years to come.
